Volunteer / Fostering
Become a part of our foster care program and you could be the difference between life and death for animals that have been abandoned, abused or neglected! Unfortunately, some of the animals that come into our program are too sick, too young, or not socialized enough to be adopted out right away. They could be excellent pets, however, once they are healthy, socialized, or just plain older. Foster volunteers take these animals into their home, providing a safe environment for them to mature, become more socialized, or heal from an injury or illness. This can be an intense short term commitment, but also a very rewarding one!

LUV-A-PET is committed to saving as many adoptable puppies, kittens, dogs, cats and other
small animals as we can, whether they are injured, heartworm positive or healthy. Unfortunately,
finances dictate what we can and cannot manage at any given time. An even bigger limiting factor is
the availability of suitable foster homes.
If you are reading this then you must at least be a bit curious about fostering a LUV-A-PET
animal! We would like to give you some information about us and fostering to help you with your
decision. LUV-A-PET began saving animals 8 years ago when the need for the rescue of all breeds
of companion animals was realized by our founder, Denise. At that time, she was volunteering with
another rescue and through her experiences there, discovered the serious need for a group who
would take any breed of companion animal, including those that were ill or injured.
Our group has grown rapidly and we have saved and placed over 3000 animals in the past years.
Some things never change though, including the huge number of abandoned and unwanted pets
and the severe shortage of space.
When you foster for our group, we pay all medical care for our animals as long as a
participating LUV-A-PET veterinarian is used for the animal's care. We supply the food; you supply
toys, treats, love and a safe haven for your foster until he or she is adopted.
You can choose to foster a special needs dog who will need time away from adoptions to become
available for placement or an animal that you will need to bring to adoptions. Any house training or
other time you would like to invest in your foster is great and will help them find new homes much
faster.
To be a LUV-A-PET foster you will start by filling out our application. We will speak with you
about your particular desires and goals in fostering one of our animals and discuss any questions
you may have at that time. We will then be able to help you select a suitable foster animal.
Thank you for considering fostering for us and for being a person who cares about the welfare of
displaced animals!
The application will be used to establish base information for our records for fostering.
LUV-A-PET reserves the right to deny any foster if we feel that the home environment does not
support the fostering of one of our animals. We do not discriminate based on race, sex or creed and
are only interested in the best overall welfare of the animal.
By submitting this application, you certify that the information is true and understand that false
information is grounds for terminating the foster relationship. This relationship can be terminated at
any time, by either party after discussion of the situation with a representative of the group and after
having given the group sufficient time to place the animal in another acceptable foster home. If for
any reason you cannot adhere to the foster agreement, you agree to return foster animals(s) to the
care of LUV-A-PET. You authorize the release of all health records on any pets you currently have
or have had in the past. You understand that any fostered animals in your care are the property of
LUV-A-PET until such time as they are placed in an approved permanent home in accordance with
the policies laid out in the adoption contract and the adoption donation has been collected. Except in
a situation where the life of the animal is in danger, any medical treatment must be approved and will
be performed by a LUV-A-PET veterinarian. The cost for any unauthorized non-emergency
veterinary care will not be the responsibility of LUV-A-PET. You agree not to hold LUV-A-PET
responsible for any damages caused by foster animals while in your care. You understand that
LUV-A-PET is only responsible for the medical care of the foster dog and that unforeseen
circumstances may arise in which your pet becomes ill due to exposure to the foster dog, in which
case the medical fees for your own pet are your sole responsibility.

The Rescuer's Creed
I promise I will take your unwanted animals. I will heal their wounds, their diseases, their broken bones. I will give them the medical attention they need and deserve. I will nurture their starvation and give them a warm place to sleep. I will spay and neuter them, vaccinate them against the diseases that can harm them. I will treat them and honor them. I will buy them toys, blankets, balls, and teach them to play. I will speak softly to them. I will try to teach them not to fear, not to cry, and not to hate. I will whisper sweet, kind, gentle words into their ears, while gently trying to stroke their fear, their pain, and their scars away. I will face their emotional scars and give them time to overcome them. I will socialize them, potty train them, teach them to be obedient, show them dignity, and hold their paws, and stroke their ears if they have endured too much and walk them over the Rainbow Bridge, BUT most of all I will teach them LOVE.
